Yep. The IAS is a joke that's just not funny.
A kangaroo court, by all accounts on forums.  Judges are unimpressed.

  • Hi everyone,

So I followed the advice on the newbies thread and emailed Gladstone’s to ask for the debt to be put on hold for 30 days whilst I seek debt advice. I also asked them if their client are aware that the extra £70 payment they’ve asked has been made illegal by the government.

This is what they responded with:

The Amount Due/ Debt includes £70.00 claimed by our Client for the time/resources spent facilitating the recovery of the unpaid parking charge notice(s) pursuant to its ATAs Code of Practice and the Terms and Conditions of the Contract, which was entered into upon the driver of the vehicle entering the Relevant Land. The amount is a pre-determined and nominal contribution to our Clients losses as a direct result of your non-payment.”

They’re now giving me until 25 August to pay up.

Should I respond and tell them again that it is very much illegal (the £70)?

    Thank you

It's not illegal and the Government Code is temporarily withdrawn awaiting a final Public Consultation soon.

We'd agree with Neil O'Brien MP that it is extortion, though, and we need people like you to respond to the Public Consultation when it opens (Autumn, maybe).

Just ignore them and come back if and when you get a court claim.
