Renovation insurance & broker advice

Options
Hi, we are about to complete on a house that needs repairs to the roof, rewire, new central heating system etc. So we will probably need to be getting renovation insurance from what I've read.

Any advice or recommendations on who to go with?

Also, is it worth going to an insurance broker for this?

It will depend on the scope of cover that you need.

What is the value of the works?    Do these need covering until completion (i.e against fire, flood, escape of water etc).

The existing structure can be covered on a 'restricted cover' basis or a 'wide cover' basis.   Some/most policies will exclude cover in respect of damage caused by the contractor.

Who's doing the work?   One contractor, or a number of tradespeople?

There's a bit to think about.   Probably best speak with a broker, if you are unsure as to what is required.

  • Just noticed that reply, apologies

It will be carried out by a few different tradesman at different points, plan to do it over 18 months or so. Is it possible to get standard building cover, then get specific renovation cover if/when needed when we know the duration of the rewire etc if that makes sense?

Just obviously we need building insurance to compete on the house but don't know when work will actually commence.
