Making a claim for PPI tax refund - making a claim after cancelling claim service company

I recently filled out a claim form with a claim service company, fortunately I cancelled it within the cooling off period. However, whilst agreeing to the cancellation, the company has informed me it had already submitted the application form to HMRC. Where do I stand in making my own application?

you can contact HMRC to tell them you have wilthdrawn the third party’s authority and that they shouldn’t contact them again without your explicit written permission

But if you completed a "deed of assignment" that will mean HMRC have to repay any tax overpaid for the tax years the deed relates to to the nominated repayment recipient.

Notifying HMRC that the claims company is no longer acting on your behalf will just mean HMRC no longer send other correspondence to the claims company.

The claims company will still be entitled to the tax refund if there is a deed of assignment.

  • Thanks for the advice. So does that mean the cooling of period is worthless?
  • I think a lot depends on exactly what you have signed and the exact terms of the contract you have with the claims company.

You really need to clarify the exact position with them.
