Or there are these trough trays from Stewart that come in black, green or terracotta and 3 lengths 59cm, 70cm or 100cm depth is 19cm

I've got some i picked up in my local garden centre for a couple of quid each last year.

Like theoretica said, I use mushroom punnets cos they don't have holes in the bottom  also ice cream tubs and redundant cat litter trays.  I've also cut up old seed compost bags and laid them over wood window sills as protection

I used to make newspaper plant pots for my veggies. rolled in a cylinder and screwed up the bottom. If you turn them inside out they have a flattish bottom.
You look very smart and organised there Indigo_and_Violet. Really working well.

@coffeehound's suggestion arrived today. Looking very smart and I'm feeling a lot more confident about having a go at newspaper plant pots now its not the end of the world if they collapse horribly.
Looking good.  I assume that you don't have a cat?

I bought loads of plug plants to sit in the spare room while they grew a bit.  I found a huge tray and a 50l pot in the council recycling place, cost 50p.  :)
