As above - it has been pointed out that although they may advertise as:

    "No win, no fee"

    what they don't say is:

"No win, no responsibility for the other sides rather large legal costs"
A good, sunny morning to you.

The highlighted bit, care to clarify, please.

No win, no fee means exactly that, IMO

Yes, it means exactly no (your solicitors) fee, what it doesn't mean that there's no liability to TP legal costs should you lose.

I could  be wrong here but wasn't car tax based on emissions the cleaner the car the lower the tax so have all the people now claiming paid the government £150 for each year they owed a diesel car.
Don't be silly, the people who are claiming would never hold their own standards to the level they expect of others

VED was based on the official CO2 figures for each car from 2001 to 2017, yes.

This isn't about CO2. The official CO2 figures for the VAG cars that have had the NOx fix have not changed.

I think Henry was just highlighting the point that the owners have probably saved money rather than lost it.

Folk are just greedy and see the vultures gathering and want a piece of the action.  These schemes have a habit of biting you on the backside.

    Spot on
It's like friends of mine claiming compensation for mis-sold this and that when they full admit they fully understood at the time.
People just want free money, to hell with morals.
  • Now PPI has dried up the legal vultures are taking a punt because Volkswagen were found guilty of it...a bit like accusing every man of murder because the Yorkshire ripper was a man - a sad state of affairs that the legal profession can try to drum up trade by people being "guilty by association" ie you manufacture cars
I tried to make a claim to see how this works as morally its wrong - read the small print - and there it is the small print . The legal eagles have insurance cover to cover their costs should the case fall in favour of the manufacturers - if there is a shortfall everyone involved will have to cough up the difference - Just because Volkswagen were found guilty of it via a whistle blower. You will also have to prove you bought/leased your 300 diesel shiny Merc because it emmitted a few parts per million NOX than the equivalent 5 series - you bought a Merc to impress the neighbours and for its engineering excellence style performance  kudos ect ect. The ONLY people who can claim consequential loss in this scandal is the government who set their VED rates based on emissions. Volkswagen were found guilty and lost their case in the US because of a whistle blower who testified in a US court - the same may not happen here -Also the the volkswagen case wont come to court here until 2023 when the accusations were made in 2019 - because VW did it doesn this mean everyone was at it , how will they prove that put defeat devices on vehicles and how will they prove YOU bought your car because you thought it emitted a few parts per million less than another vehicle. If the insurance industry refused to underwrite the legal eagles fishing expedition the whole thing would fall flat on its face and they would move onto the next industry to leach off of

You forget a couple of minor details...

VW were found to have cheated the US emissions testing for NOx.
US NOx limits were FAR stricter than they were in Europe, which was why virtually nobody even bothered trying to sell diesels in the US.

And VED rates were based on CO2, not NOx.

They haven't saved any money, the NOx figures do not affect your car tax, the cheat device in VW was for the US (mostly) who do test for that and use it in their taxation. Nobody who bought a diesel in the UK has lost money as a result of this, it's just the usual bandwagon jumping of people hearing they could get free money by inventing false claims about nothing
