Upgrade heating gas not an option

From what I can see through googling the prices, LPG pricing looks to be around £0.07 per kWh, so that seems a lot more than the 25% premium you mention over mains gas. Please could you clarify?nigelbb said:
LPG is more expensive than mains gas although at most 25% more it's still considerably cheaper than using E7 which is about 100% more per KWh. You also have the traditional E7 night storage heater problems that you pay for heat before you know whether you need it or not & if it's very cold your NSHs run out of steam & you need to use peak rate electricity to keep warm.0 -
FYI. I pay 33ppl for LPG. That works out at 5.5p/kWh0

That's in bulk?Mister_G said:FYI. I pay 33ppl for LPG. That works out at 5.5p/kWh
In the 47kg thread people are paying around £1.15 a kg, closer to 8p/kWh.

Yes, in bulk, 1000 litres at a time.
Indeed the cylinders are much dearer.1 -
Surely if you buy in bulk you need a tank and you must write-off the cost of the tank over its expected lifetime in addition to what you pay for the LPG? Same with oil. If I had stuck with oil and bought a new tank then the cost would have been about what I pay for 2 years' oil supply.Reed0

I'm not sure but I think you hire the LPG tank rather than own it because it does need periodic certification. There are also the the LPG regulations to comply with regarding location and access etc. (the guy over the road has just had his LPG tank replaced)
The up front charge is probably less than buying and installing an oil tank but there's probably an ongoing annual hire charge. I'm happy to be correctedNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Yes, the tank belongs to the LPG supplier. My 33ppl includes a contribution to the tank costs.
I know that some suppliers charge between £60 and £100 per annum for the tank - even more for an underground one.
It's very unusual to own your own tank, due to the testing and certification requirements.
I've had LPG for the past 40 years so am pretty familiar with how it all works!0
