British Gas have put me in debt
Hi has anyone else noticed this about 2 months ago I was checking my bank account and noticed British Gas had changed my direct debit from £100 a month to £19.99 a month so I was assuming I was in credit so I logged into my BG account and noticed it had been about 5 months ago BG reduced my dd I had no phone call or email or letter to tell me why and I have noticed that they now bill me every 6 months and not every 3 months I tried to get through to them but couldn’t so I changed it back to the original amount of £100 but now I know I’m going to get a big bill I was in credit but now I’m going to be in debt with them
after speaking with family and friends I have found out that it has happened to them aswell all with BG just wondering if anyone else has had this and if they have spoken to British Gas
I will try and contact them again

You don't notifications re change of DD by email or letter - the info will be on your bill.
The change in billing period may be due to a fix running out. Look back on the bills and see what they say.
I am assuming you are submitting meter reads at least every month.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
Presumably your current account balance has been increasing by £80.01 per month, so no real debt - just the money being in your account rather than theirs!#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3662

Why didn't you notice the change in DD the first month that it happened ?
Are you really saying you have not checked either you bank or energy account for 5 months ?0 -
You did exactly the right thing in pushing your D/Debit back to £100 - Hopefully you have mains Gas heating and it's lack of use over the Summer will eat up the debt.BG are in severe financial trouble and I guess 6 monthly billing is a way they can save money, but it definitely dis-advantages the customers in that if there is a problem in the house that is causing excessive Energy use, they won't know about it for months0
