Gazco fire

Hi. I've just moved into a new house which has a Gazco Riva2 500 installed in the lounge. The previous owners left some instructions on switching it on. I managed it a couple of times but now all it does is beep for a while, light the pilot, click for a few seconds, beeps again and then pilot goes out and it switches itself off.
I've been given the name of a gas engineer by the store it was bought from, but before I call him, wonder if there's some quirk to it I haven't discovered yet, or whether I may be able to fix it myself. Because it's gas, I obviously have to be a bit careful.
Grateful for any advice. Thanks!

Here <<<<LINK is a manual and there is some sort of fault finding chart towards the end. Sounds to me like the thermocouple needs replacing. What normally (should) happen and these are generic instructions, is that when you light the pilot, it should heat up a thermocouple (short metal rod) which tells the control system that the gas is lit and it can keep the valve open. Sometimes, if you are starting it after a long time of new use, it can take a few attempts to do this. If it continues to go off, it is doing its job and you need to call a gas engineer as you've suggested.Hi. I've just moved into a new house which has a Gazco Riva2 500 installed in the lounge. Thank you for replying. It seems to have sorted itself out! I just kept trying regularly and now it seems to light each time. No idea what was wrong with it. Perhaps it wasn't much used by the previous owners. Hopefully I won't need to use it much now and it's due for a service in the Autumn, so will get the service engineer to check it all over. Fingers crossed it stays in working order!Le_Kirk said:Maz1963 said:
