Does anyone have any advice.
I'm just wondering what are the options for putting security cameras up without wifi?
How are recordings made?

If you have no home network, you'd have to look at a "traditional" cctv system where all the camera's are wired to a central DVR which cna then have a screen / keyboard attached for monitoring.
If you have a wired internet connection at home, consider Arlo. You have a base unit which connects to your router. Your Arlo cameras then connect wirelessly to your base unit.1 -

That's what my in-laws have but it meant drilling a hole in the ceiling for all the cables. As they insisted the 'controls' all had to be on the ground floor that also meant drilling through the upper floor. They now have 4 wonderful black cables running down the wall of their dining room to his computer!

you could always wire 4 traditional co-ax cams back to a DVR in the loft (or any central point thats easy) and link that to your PC/router with an ethernet cable if thats easy, or if not just go to the DVR to view the footage2

You need to get power and a data stream to each camera, and also to a recorder. I use a combination of PoE (power over ethernet) and Powerlink (ethernet over power) to do this. Powerlink avoids the need to run cables everywhere (eg between floors, to garage), while PoE allows simple connection of multiple cameras.

Thanks for the comments - as I suspected, it would be a lot easier with wifi!0
