Some of you may have known my mum on here, her username was Lady_K. A while ago she posted a thread asking about no frills body disposal. Sadly we lost mum on 8th Jan 2021 after she suffered a catastrophic stroke 😭
After her passing I had absolutely no idea of her wishes about funerals as she never let me know, I think it was quite an uncomfortable subject for her. We had a simple cremation service (thanks to the 'rona) but my sister has since found the thread and let me know about it. I know she wanted it her send off more simple but at the time we didnt know. In my opinion i think funerals are for the living to remember and celebrate the life of the passed. Her cremated remains will be interred at a local natural burial ground because she loved nature and birds and this peaceful place seems fitting.
I would have loved to have known her wishes to be able carry them out but feel that this would have been extremely upsetting for the family had we done so 😭
Mum had been on these forums for many years, at least 10, and was an avid moneysaver.
We are heartbroken from losing her 💔

Sorry to hear your news.
As you say, the funeral rites are really for the living to help with their grieving.
It sounds as if the simple funeral you had wasn't too far from her wishes.
Take care of yourselves - sudden deaths can be very hard to come to terms with.1 -

Condolences - as a friend wrote when I lost my father very suddenly "Grief is the price we pay for love".
