Recycling UPVC windows / doors

When replacing with new - is it standard practice for manufacturers to offer a trade-in price? Aside from selling / gifting with re-purposing in mind, how can they be recycled? Is there any financial incentive for doing so?
I've got lots that are absolutely fine but possibly not compliant with energy efficiency regs (assuming these will have changed in the last 15 years?) and it seems a shame to dump them rather than re-use.

if they are fine why are you getting rid of them?
they are often made to measure, so on the second hand market in a used condition basically they go for next to nothing. I'm not aware of any recycling schemes, and I don't think the regs have tightened up that much in 15 years either.
it does make me laugh how seemingly worthless the modern "Fensa" certificate is. if anyone can find me a new PVC window or door to by that doesn't meet the modern requirements, I'd be amazed.
Obviously there are old windows or doors that don't meet the requirements, but it seems glaringly obvious to anyone that they don't meet the requirements, as they are made of wood, or aluminium, or are single glazed... and they look old2 -

My handy neighbour made a lean to greenhouse from old double glazed windows. Easier to errect and sturdier.Really impressive. But not recycled because I wanted some coloured glass to make a window for the garden gate so thought of all the old doors taken out. I was told they don't keep them even broken.
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

The glass is eminently recyclable, and there are places do it. The uPVC can also be reused for a multitude of purposes once any metals & contaminants have been removed - The metals, once separated, would be recycled through established networks. That said, when the likes of Anglian offer you a discount for their scrappage "scheme", you can be sure it is a marketing gimmick for an overpriced product. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.3 -
Offer them on Faceache Marketplace either for free or for a few bob first, Rosa? Anyone building a shed or greenhouse as 2'penny says would love them, I'm sure.We had a nightmare DG unit in the side of our existing extension room which needed removing for the new addition, and one unit was 3.5m x 1.6m. Our builders were dreading it.Stuck it on Marketplace - free to good home - and had a half-dozen folk after it. They took hours to remove it all, and two guys carried out the main DG unit, almost bent double under the weight. Scary...

When we had our conservatory roof replaced, the quote included removal and recycling of glass and roof frame. I have seen complete conservatories offered for sale or free to collect. That is much more likely to be reused than windows and door, unless sombody wanted them for a shed or outbuilding. My brother-in-law has actually taken our old upvc back door to use on his new shed.
