Landline changes from Sky to Post Office over £100 per month (yes, that's right)

In a bid to tidy up my MIL's finances I changed her phone line from Sky £25 pm to Post Office £15 pm.  The first bill of £150 for the month came in and I had unknowingly not purchased a package deal.  I accept this is a stupid error on my part and contacted them to ask for advice - of course they won't refund or credit the account.
I subscribed to a plan, as advised by the call operator, and this month the bill is over £250.
I really don't understand why this is happening.  My MIL is almost 89 so it's difficult to keep passing the phone over to her to authorise information.
I am looking to change providers for her now, but don't believe them (post ofice)  when they say I am not in a contract so I am wary of changing this again.
Any advice would be appreciated. TIA

She phones her neighbour's mobile everyday.  I think it's more the package she was (or wasn't)  on which is fine, I resolved that with them after the first month (well it's not fine but my error so I can't do much about it).  They don't appear to have put her on the right package and now I don't even know what advice I am asking for.

You could try a cheap mobile phone offering - unlimited calls etc eg three give you unlimited mobile calls for £5 a month.

You would need to give her a mobile phone of course.

Yes, she has a mobile that she calls us on - pay as you go.  I just need to find out if she is in a contract with PO and leave I think.

Very very odd as in landline usually £15- £25  .
Add on calls to that but £250 is a lot of calls to premium numbers ??
ASk for a breakdown of calls .

it's just her neighbour every day and son when she doesn't use her mobile.
I will have to wait and see what the complaint brings.
I am gobsmacked that they have repeated the same thing.

Post Office charge 18p a minute for calls to land lines and mobiles (without a package).

£230 of calls in a month (assume £20 for rental) = 1277 minutes or divide by 30 (days) is about 42 mins of calls per day every day

    Does this sound about right?

A pay monthly SIM only deal from Three is only about £5 a month
