Hello all.
I need some information on CCJs.
Do they get removed after 6 years like a default or do they stay till they are settled?
My husband has one on his file from 5 years ago it says its due to be removed march 2022,
(We are wanting a mortgage so not sure what is best to do)
Thanks in advance

The marker falls off after 6 years, but the debt remains if that's not been settled. Your mortgage lender will ask you for details of your debts.1

Sorry for sounding thick here, so the ccj will drop off but what will the debt show as?0

It will fall of his credit history after 6 years, whether paid or not. After that if the claimant wants to enforce the judgment they have to apply to the court.
Use a mortgage broker as they will place you with the right lender. Paying the CCJ now looks better, but also looks like you've settled it because of wanting a mortgage.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
I agree with Moving Forwards however it is better to settle that debt than not. Any prudent lender would ask why you have not paid it. I had a CCJ and I settled it, I work in Financial Services as a freelancer and the client I worked for said you paid it so we can hire you i.e. you are talking responsibility for your mistakes.1

Thanks for the replies,
If it falls off his file next March anyway how will they know if its settled or not?0 -
If you go for a mortgage now, it will show as being outstanding. Go for a mortgage after and only you, your OH, the court and claimant will know it wasn't paid.
If you're applying for a mortgage without a broker, carefully read the application as some ask if you HAVE a CCJ, some ask if you've ever HAD a CCJ.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
Thank you,
Think he has decided not to pay it off as it falls off next march anyway so we will wait till next year to apply for a mortgage.1
