Santander credit card - error when trying to pay by debit card

I've been trying to pay off my Santander credit card, however whichever debit card I use I receive the following error message: "Unfortunately the verification process failed. You may wish to try using an alternative debit card, or payment method." -


As I say I've tried about 4 different cards and receive the same error each time, so I know it's not the cards! I also never get as far as receiving a verification notification from any of the ones that do that in their app.

Has anyone else experienced this before or found a solution? I tried calling Santander but gave up after holding for 20 min!

    Could you use bank transfer instead?  Details are on any statement.

    Yep but had already reach daily limit for transfers from the bank I was wanting to use so was hoping to use debit card. Just tried smaller amounts on other cards to check it wasn't an issue with the main card but seems to be an issue with Santander...
  • This has been ongoing for years. I've called them and they say it works for some people and not others and that they're not prepared to do anything but take it on as feedback.

    Santander has an automated telephone banking service, which I used several times to use a debit card to pay my Santander credit card. Their online banking is not exactly functional.

    It is extremely random and unpredictable.  I hate it.  Will accept a card one day, not the next, and then successfully the day after.

    Tried automated banking but didn't work either - will try again sometime. Tried online again and online banking down even though it's the middle of the day!
