O/S Daily Thursday 15 April 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Frosty start to the day again this morning, looks cold..
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was Hunters Chicken, potato gratin and a side of broccolli - all eaten and enjoyed. I need to organise something for tonight's dinner - need to have a think.
I'm now on days' off before annual leave next week - still no answers from work. I have several jobs to do so will get on with getting those done.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all. Feel quite bouncy for the now so will get a load in the wm in a minute and peg it out because the sun looks like it might be shining today. The focaccia came out OK but I wouldn't say great. The first rise went well, but the second one it stayed a bit like a pancake.Still edible though luckily. I will rethink my method for the next time. And add more herbs. So...I didn't hoover yesterday...I know right? Shock and horror! Addiction is a terrible thing...But I probably will today..phew! normal service resumed...And OH is better today so off to work he went.I think a curry of some sort is one the cards, I have some veg to use and some celeriac sitting there waiting to be turned into something spicy. I like celeriac soup but OH doesn't do soup really [why does he want to eat hot water?] so it's either going to be a la patatas bravas or sag aloo being as I have frozen spinach. I think I'm becoming fixated on food because I have so little to do,in the sense that because I can't do things I want to do [ except work of course,I really don't want to work] I focus on things I can. So apologies for sounding like a cookbook recently.Gers, how about ebay or gumtree or vinted? I know there'll be small craft makers out there who'd kill for a bit of cheap cashmere...If I lived nearer I'd burgle you for it...AOD, hope you enjoyed your tiny bit of you time. Rosy, sounds like a bit of a shock. Hope you've come to terms with it today. That's the trouble with a lockdown, nothing out of the ordinary seems to happen so when it does, it really stands out. Put your hands in the air like you dont care that it's Thursday! Another week nearly gone! Stay sane!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi13

Morning folks. Thanks for the thread nmlc - enjoy your days off.My outside breakfast was lovely yesterday. We talked for over two hours, mostly inconsequentially. 😀 I didn't get to the tip so will go today, there's more after my work in the afternoon. DM decided to let me declutter one cupboard of her many jumpers, some scarves and stoles and some shoes. Most of the jumpers are going to a CS with just a couple needing to be binned. I've got a small problem with a very old narrow 'collar' which I suspect is real fur. I'll put it back in the wardrobe for now.Photo scanning continues. I get a bit caught up with looking at them too closely rather than just scanning. All those little photos from the 50s and 60s, the ones with scalloped edges, can be seen much better when enlarged in the computer. People's faces become much clearer. I've been emailing some to family and friends. My cousin in Berlin knew the name of every child in a photo which had eight in, the entire street of children where he lived, plus my brother. That was impressive. This morning the cleaner is coming so I can go out without worrying too much. Later I'll rewatch Masterchef, the winner was very deserving.I hope that those who had outings had a really good time. Hugs to our poorlies. Happy Thursday to all.13

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Enjoy your week off. We are back to the minus's again this morning, blue sky, sunshine and a thick frost.
I had the perfect first day out yesterday after being incarcerated for months. Skipton market was up and running and, as a sign of the times we are in, almost every stall was selling face masks along with their usual wares! It wasn't as busy as we expected, no more than a pre-Covid market day. We managed to get a table for lunch on the terrace of the Black Horse, overlooking the canal. The sun was shining and it felt quite warm. We both succumbed to the special of an enormous Steak and Double Gloucester pie, with chips, peas and a little jug of gravy. It was delicious and every last morsel was enjoyed. As was the very nice bottle of wine we had with it! BF's DH insisted on coming back for us so we were chauffeured both ways. All in all A Grand Day Out!
Back to going nowhere today and jobs await, both indoors and out. I need to do a reorganisation of both freezers too, in readiness for a grocery delivery early tomorrow morning.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies and poorly loved ones. Take care one and all xx

Good morning, another fine day here, chilly though. You're still emptying cupboards Gers ! Old photos are irresistible aren't they, we've got loads,Yesterday was an ok day, a pottering sort of day really, I had a brief trip to the shops, and posted a card through a friends' door. We've now got appointments for second vaccinations, next Tuesday, we thought we wouldn't have them till sometime in May, not complaining though, let's get it over with.Florenceem, those lavender bags are lovely, very pretty.Csarina, glad DB is home and ok.TA, hope you enjoyed your day yesterday.Hope everyone has a good day today, thinking of our poorly people., take care folks.16

Morning all, bright and sunny but very cold here, perhaps it will warm up later.
House looks a bit cleaner but it seems to get grubby after minutes, especially the kitchen floor. I'm struggling with hoovering and can only do stairs with OH following me holding the vacuum while I deploy the sucker thingy. I'm wondering if a cordless one would help or if they are heavy.
I have been waiting for the heating to come on before I have a shower. After that the most pressing things are in the garden but they may have to wait.
Those pesky pigeons are hugely fat now and between them and the greedy squirrels, the small birds are not getting a look in at the bird table.
I have to have a course of vitamin D. 6 weeks hefty dose, then a smaller one but of course the test was in March, when sunlight levels are low, in the warmer months it is rare for me not to spend part of each day outside so I'll probably get too much vitamin D. Apparently Mt osteoporosis risk is pretty low though.
Nmlc I'm very surprised that your employers are treating staff as they are.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning All
Sunny again this morning. I spent most of yesterday afternoon reading in the garden but sadly got a bit of sunburn! I did get the grass cut although it hasn't done much growing with the cold and frosty weather.
DS1 and the DGC arriving this morning so I must go and do some shopping, we're having a day out at the beach tomorrow, just hoping the weather holds.
House clean and tidy for now, I'm sure that will change once they all arrive!
Hope everyone's well, thinking of Marie as always, missing your tales of the horses Mehefin!
Take care. XX15 -
Morning, another bright one, so towels are in the washer. They will be going out on the line.
Another day yesterday not doing much, I did pull a load of rhubarb, made a crumble that will do is another 2 suppers, the rest is cut up in the freezer, will be pulling more this morning. Have been taking flowers off as well.
My cleaner collected our groceries, I forgot to order bread for toast.....I have half a loaf in the fridge and a full loaf in the freezer, I may nip to Aldi in Leicester tomorrow when we go in to take the quilt.
DB will be getting his 30 minutes in the garden this morning, he is much better. As I have said before he has very little tolerance to pain, I have a sneaking suspicion that he had indigestion. I think our GP thinks that as well, he has upped his Lansoprasol to twice a day. However, I just could not take the risk on Sunday. He is also back to doing his 'duties'.... mostly washing and drying the dishes, I call them pots.
Chicken pasta for supper tonight, I have some sauce from a previous chicken dish in the freezer, so will use that up as well. Crumble for dessert.

Morning all; lovely and sunny here at the moment.
Late start for me this morning but can potter for a while and then we are booked to meet another couple for a pub lunch; lovely!
Yesterday's walk along the canal was very interesting; there's a lot of history in that area, and then we managed to top if off with an unscheduled pub lunch - another one I hear you say! We drove to a pub in the area that does lovely food on the off chance that it would have a spare table so we were very lucky that it did.
NMLC I imagine you work for a local Council or LA, in which case I am not at all surprised at the procrastination regarding decisions. I worked part time for our Local Authority some years ago but moved on after 3 years for very much this sort of reason. They also messed up my pension once I retired so now I get a smaller amount from them than I should have done. I do, however, have a lovely small group of friends who all worked there at the same time and, pre Covid, we met regularly for coffee and a catch up.
Have a good day everyone.14
