New to klarna

Hi all

Now I have avoided using klarna because I was scared of what it was. Now I see more and more retailers offering it.

I dont like to be under a certain amount in my bank despite some people might think its healthy amount.

I save along with my partner for a wedding next year and the funds is healthy. We are not struggling at all.

I have a barclaycard with 1900 on it. My 0 percent deal ends in September and I have some payments for wedding on this card to help protect ourselves due to section something protection. The wedding payments will be paid off before September but I'm keeping the wedding fund seperate for now to ensure I know we have a healthier amount saved.

I am have a Halifax credit card which I don't use due to interest and alsp my barclay card is the main one I'm using. I think i may look for another 0 percent card come September but not sure.

Anyways I was thinking of using klarna for some products but worried how it will affect my file.i also have a scheme at work whete I can get money sent to my bank via wagestream for a small charge.

It may sound daft to you but this month just seems like a long month for some reason. You might think why am I looking at credit when I have a healthy amount of money in the bank.

What's your thoughts with klarna. We are not people who get alot of credit as we prefer to buy out right.

  • I’ve bought something on Klarna once, it was for buy now pay later, I paid it off before the date it was due and haven’t used it again. They didn’t appear on any of my credit reports. Personally I prefer to use credit cards instead of companies like Klarna.

If you use the pay in 30 days option, Klarna only does a soft search and won't impact your score as long as you make the payment on time. The same applies to the short term installment plan.  I gather they do longer loans as well and that those require a hard search and would show on your file.

I don't see the harm if you are 100% certain you'll pay them off on time, but be honest with yourself about whether this is a one-off or whether you'll find yourself stretching the credit you use every month.

They don’t show on your credit file. I have Klarna and I spend a lot on it and none of it is on my credit file.

I have done a 3 month payment plan and used my Halifax clarify card. However reading online it appears they treat the repayments like gambling and cash advances and as such this type of purchase would attract fees.  I would be interested to know if anyone has found in recent times by using their credit card this way has attracted fees.  I spoke to HX but the advisor really do not know what I was talking about.
  • The last place I worked at, use to use it to soften the blow for an expensive repair service.
The most interesting fact I learnt from that job was Klarna pays the retailer straight away at point of purchase, whether the 'spread over three months' is selected.  I hadn't appreciated that point before.
I understand Klarna and it's likes have been under scrutiny though in recent times, so I wouldn't rely on it, not being changed eventually.
If you can buy outright, then do so.

The purchase has now gone through and have managed to change the 2 future payments to my debit card. Also they do not carryout a hard search for paying over 3 months.

I have paid in the past with various different credit cards (Marbles, Capital One and Vanquis) and none treated it as a gambling/cash advance. No fees on any of my cards.
