I used a promo code given to me by email on Uber Eats for 50% off food costs (not delivery). It applied the code and gave me a £13 discount. All still fine so I clicked Pay it still said £14 but then afterwards I saw it had taken £27. I contacted them and they said the code wasn't valid. Odd as my friend who also got email bought from same place using it and fine and we used exactly the account and app as directed by the code email we got.
I rang place they said they definitely do accept the code and after telling this to the support at Uber eats they wouldn't reconfirm the place didn't take code and just ignored that part of the message over and over????
In any case surely it is illegal to say I am taking £14 out of you account but then take £27. Why apply the code if it is not valid? Or tell me and say hold on new price is £27??

Contact your bank. They should be able to do a chargeback for unauthorised payment, assuming you didn't use a third party to pay (haven't used them so don't know their payment setup).
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride1 -
Exact same thing happened to me today and judging by reviews of Uber eats this seems to be a regular thing. Like you I can't see how it can be legal to authorise a payment for £14 and for them to then take £27. I used PayPal and have raised a claim with them although I'm not expecting to get anywhere with it.0
