Buying a part exchange house

Hi people, first time poster but just venting my frustration..
Put an offer in on a part exchange property back in December, told the people living in there were moving onto a new build around February/March. Was being pushed into exchange as some people will know, they try and make you do it within 28 days.. Luckily didn't get too much hassle.
We've basically been dealing with a really incompetent firm called New Home Solutions that act on behalf of Persimmons (I can't decide who's worse). NHS (New Homes) have hardly kept us up to date throughout the whole process and just chucked it on us, that the builders have set a deadline for us to complete, a week ago and that the property has been vacant since the 12th of March! Had we known this, we would have gladly moved in sooner as we were all prepared, mortgage being ported over, and someone ready to buy our house.
Our solicitor wasn't happy to exchange, as the land registry title wasn't on persimmons name, it was still on the previous owners. We asked for it to be expedited, and their solicitor refused (Doesn't make sense?) But eventually agreed that they would. They then set us a second deadline, last Friday or they'll pull out. We explained land registry document being expedited requires 10 days!
On numerous occasions prior to this I did tell New Homes to inform them to expedite the request, but it fell on deaf ears.
I rang land registry on the Monday, and it turns out the solicitor never did expadite it. I just don't get why they would lie?! And why back out when we are so close to the end?! The property hasn't been put back on the market yet..
Do you think it would be a little desperate me approaching them again once land registry is done and dusted and our solicitor is actually happy to exchange?
He wasn't happy to exchange as he's obviously working on behalf of the mortgage lender, and wanted the land registry named document to match the contract.
Bit of a frustrating situation and can't get my head around it when we are good to go.. I'm going to work abroad in 2 months and just wanted me and my partner settled into our new house. Sorry for the long post! Thoughts and opinions welcome!
