Wouldn't work for everyone though. I'd hate not to be able to shut kitchen smells away from the rest of the house. If the OP doesn't like open plan I'm not sure this is the remedy for her.
    Absolutely.

It's what I would do here, tho'
In practice, smells shouldn't be a major problem if you have a decent extractor, and even fryin' bacon - hmmmm - dissipates after a short while - shame.

How about rotate kitchen door 45 degrees and utility room will then be accessed off the hall rather than the kitchen.

    Remove the utility door.
Change the kitchen and utility door so they open the opposite side.
Change the utility door to a folding one.

Personally I would go with option one, quick, free and you may even make a couple of quid selling the door.

Have you considered removing the wall between the kitchen and utility (and the door) - bigger kitchen and no door issues.

As the OP has recently moved in I think they are looking at a quick ergonomical fix for now to make it work day-to-day But you're right, longer term a single room converged with the conservatory has incredible potential here.

Change the kitchen door to open into the hallway, add a magnetic door stop to hold it to the wall.  If its anything like our house, you'll probably never shut the door anyway.
  • Make the utility door an internal bi-fold door?
