Searching recent death records

Hi all,

I wish to search recent death records but online search tools don't seem to include records more recently than the 00s. What are my options?

TIA

Depending on what exactly you are trying to find, https://www.gov.uk/search-will-probate might help.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Hi, thanks very much! I'm literally just trying to find out if one particular person is dead! It sounds morbid but there's a painfully pragmatic and prosaic reason why

    Hi

Assuming England and Wales, if you go to www.gro.gov.uk you will find deaths up to and including 2019. There's a lot of people whose estates don't go to probate (not least the first spouse if they have a joint tenancy).

Registration and search of the indexes is free. If you do find your person, checking the probate registry for the next couple of years might be worth it. Costs £1.50 for the will and rather more for the death certificate.

Scottish indexes at scotlandspeople are more up t0 date BUT you can't order a recent death certificate on-line. However, they do tell you the mother's maiden name which helps limit the options.

    Best of luck

Another option is to search the funeral notices - there is an online site now where all the ones that appear in local papers are available from
