Carers Allowance Renewal

Hi,

We receive Carers Allowance due to having middle-rate DLA for our son. The previous DLA award came to an end this month and therefore we received a letter saying the Carers Allowance would also stop. We renewed the DLA and have been awarded for the next 5 years so there was no break in the benefit. Does the Carers Allowance automatically renew with the DLA or do we have to reapply?

Ring the Carer's Allowance unit to ask them to reinstate it - it will not happen automatically. You may have to reapply.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
