Move House - Any advantage to still getting a Smart Meter installed into the current property?

This might seem an odd question, but should we still consider putting a smart meter in even if we are planning to move house.

I don't know much about meters in terms of what happens when you move house, i.e. do they stay with the house with the IHD? If the new owners don't want to use the same vendors do they need to get the meter and IHD changed etc.

Our energy provider is constantly in contact about getting a smart meter installed (Scottish Power) and out of procrastination I didn't get it done and then just got annoyed with them calling.

We are now in a situation where we have offered on a new house, had it accepted and we have buyers for our house. 

I do not think we will move too soon as the house we are hoping to move to still don't have buyers, so I am debating whether to just accept their phone calls and get it fitted.

If the new house doesn't have one we will get it fitted, but just wondering if there would still be some advantage to get one fitted to our current house, i.e. when we leave the meter reading will be easily available to the supplier etc.

None whatsoever.

It would deter anyone who doesn't want smart meters because it will then be virtually impossible for them to get rid of them.

However, anyone who does want smart meters will be able to have them installed, so they won't care two hoots.

I'd carry on ignoring them assuming you have no plans to switch to a cheaper tariff. It's one less thing to go wrong.

It will make no difference if you have it installed in your current house or if you don't.
If you regularly read your meter and submit readings, getting accurate bills then having a smart meter won't make any difference to your end bills. Yes, you'll get a shiny IHD so you can see how much youre using at any one time and see your meter reads without having to go to the main meter.....but it won't make a difference in selling the house. If you want it for convenience then go for it, if you dont then there is no need.

I'd argue that it would be highly unlikely to have any effect on your house sale chances. I would be extremely surprised if someone didn't offer on your house just because it had smart meters. (it would a bit of a daft deal breaker.)

The meters stay in place. Any attempt to take them with you will result in a very hacked-off buyer...

We are in our first time buyers house (of a very long time) and we are hoping to move to our next house, so this will be the first time we have moved owned house to house rather than parents to first time buyers.

The meters are only rarely owned by the supply company.
