£1250 got me a 2006 330i BMW last year. The seller was convinced "nobody wants these anymore". Granted it needed discs and pads all round, and the drivers side central locking motor replaced but its been a great car.
Theres nothing to make me think it wont run on for many years yet.
It can be a bit pot luck at that price point but theres some decent, reliable cars to be had.
As has been said though, you get the best value from buying off a private seller rather than a dealer.1
