My current policy is from Compare Breakdown Cover is a trading name of Eversure Limited, an MSE recommendation.
I didn't realise they have a 16 year vehicle age limit, so i on't be renewing with them.

Are there any UK breakdown recovery services that accept cars older than 16 years?

  • StartRescue personal option has no age limit for cars plus they do classic car option if that is cheaper. I don't think there is any age limit on cars for AA or RAC personal membership either though it isn't cheap.

GEM don't have a vehicle age limit, either.
    I don't think AutoAid do.
  • Hi OP

Also compare as anyone with older or newer car,  what they exactly do in the event of a breakdown. I've heard from co-workers where a simple fauly is towed to a garge as they send in the sub contracted tow truck and the only thing they know is how to tow a car or just about jump start a car.

AA & RAC had a good rep for repairing on site but do your own research.

It is if Tesco Clubcard vouchers are used. It was around £50 in vouchers (February) for Homestart, Roadside and Recovery. Personal membership which means my 60 years old Morris Minor and everyday cars are covered when I'm using them.

The Nationwide bank service covers older vehicles, had recovery for a 1989 MK2 VW Golf a couple of years ago. Provided by Britannia Rescue so you can also go direct

  • I use the AA.  I've had them out for my 1968 Singer Chamois before.  The AA patrolman looked at the points and condenser ignition in the Lucas 25d4 distributor and said "you probably know more about this than me" :D but had a fair go at trying to fix it before towing me home.

Thanks, is that on a Personal or vehicle membership basis?
  • Another recommendation for Nationwide Flex account.

£13 per month, includes personal breakdown cover (incl Europe) for any age of car (both covered if joint account). Also includes annual travel insurance and mobile cover......Well worth the cost.
