Preparing car for road trip

Looking for some advice, we have a 2009 Toyota Corolla Verso. 2.2 d4d. It’s looking like we will need to take it on a 2000 or so mile round trip to Germany.

Can anyone advise what they would recommend preparation wise before the trip? Obviously we will get the car serviced, is there anything else that folk can point us in the direction of?

Not looking for any COVID related aspect input etc. The trip will obviously only take place when restrictions allow for it.

Check tyres had decent tread/no damage, make sure you have spare plus pump & jack. Other than that not a lot really. I've done similar and not needed anything out of the ordinary. Modern cars are capable of such trips without issues. I would take out breakdown cover just in case, much cheaper than trying to sort recovery after the event.

Edit - assume you already had all the non car bits to drive through France but if not then make sure you have those too - hi vis vests, spare bulbs, breakdown triangle & GB sticker
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

2-3 days each way on a m'way? That's not exactly an "almighty road trip"...

So long as the car's not actively broken in some way, it'll be fine.

Yes, you're going to need to factor in the various local legal requirements en-route, but there's nothing much rocket science there.

Where are you crossing the channel, where in D are you heading? Bear in mind possible post-Brexit driving licence and green card shenanigans.

Indeed - a lot of assumptions that France might be involved

Given OP's username then either Newcastle or Hull to Netherlands would avoid a channel crossing/French requirements

Check the oil, coolant, wiper fluid and tyre pressures. Get it serviced if you think it's going to be due.
  • European breakdown cover if you're so inclined.
