HSBC Credit Checks

Options
Hi

Me & my partner have just had a copy of our credit reports and have seen that when we applied for a joint current account with HSBC they credit checked me, but not him. This also happened when we applied for credit cards independently, again I was searched but he wasn't. I've been a customer with HSBC since 1985, and my partner only became a customer when we opened a joint account.

Anyone know why I would be searched and he wouldn't?

Thanks

Would it be because you are the "Principle Account Holder"?

I thought this term is used only for credit cards, but for joint current account all account holders are equal... Am I wrong?

I wondered about that for the joint current account. But I thought if anyone they would check my partner as they didn't have any details on him, but I already had a current account, savings account and credit card with them.

Re the credit cards, these are not linked, they are both in our own names independantly. Interestingly, HSBC sent a mailshot offering my partner a gold visa, but didn't write to me. As my partner was accepted for a card and earns less than me, I then applied for a gold visa. I was accepted for this however they searched me and not my partner. They obviously gave my partner the gold visa based on the 2 accounts he holds with HSBC (1 current account, 1 savings account - both jointly held with me), but even though I have other accounts with them (never overdrawn, pay credit card off in full every month) they credit checked me, but gave him on the card on the basis of the joint accounts which I pay more into. It just doesn't seem to make sense to me.
