Moorcroft Debt Recovery - password-protected documents, etc?

Options
I'm dealing with Moorcroft with regard to a PayPal "debt" that I'm disputing.
There are long delays. I've replied to every one of their communications the very day I've received them but it takes them 1+ weeks.
Most frustratingly, they insist on sending password-protected documents. The password is apparently my date of birth which it obviously isn't. Each time I tell them the password is incorrect and I can't get into the file and each time they reply with another password-protected document. They've done this 6 or 7 times now.
I've had two letters in the post which obviously doesn't correspond to the number of password-protected documents I've received. These letters are virtually identical and just ask for information I've now provided at least 3 times.
I just can't understand what they're doing at all. Is it some kind of tactic? It seems totally pointless to me.

I've just received the same letter again. I'd really appreciate some advice if possible.

Have you tried phoning them up and speaking to them?  It can often get things resolved a lot quicker than email ping-pong.

Moorcroft collect debts on behalf of client banks, so they are mainly just a collector.

If they are unsuccessful at getting payment from you, they will simply return the account back to the original client.

The OC will then either, pass the debt to another collector to chase up, or possibly sell the debt onwards.

So going forward there will be plenty of opportunity to sort this out.

This was all sorted in the end. They stopped with the password-protected documents I couldn't open and a human wrote to me and asked me to make a report to Action Fraud. I did and I never heard from them or anyone else about it again, so I think that must be the end of it.
