Over 65 On DLA but care needs changed

My mother is over 65 and on DLA mobility (she was on it before the age of 65). Unfortunately she now needs a lot more care. As she's already in receipt of DLA mobility can we apply for the care component too or will it automatically change to AA, in which case we'd loose the motability car.

Was she under 65 on 8th April 2013? If she was then a worsening of condition would mean she would need to apply for PIP.

If she was over this age on that date then a supersession maybe possible but she would need to get some further advice regarding this from an advice agency near her. Details here.

She was over-65 in 2013.

Then she should get advice regarding the supersession but this won't be easy. Other than that it would be AA but as you say it doesn't have the mobility part.

Then I think she can stay on DLA, and be assessed for the care element of DLA since her condition as worsened.

Her mobility award will stay as it is, after the age of 65 it cannot be increased.

I don't think it should be difficult. Contact DLA and report a change of circumstances and they will issue a form to complete and return, with any relevant evidence, following which DWP will make a decision.
