Hoping to be allowed to go to Sharm on June 27th. Tried to buy insurance with Staysure, getting a message about travelling to area on FCO list for non travel (aren’t they all?) wants me to take out extra cover. Should I take this or wait until traffic light lists are published? ML says book straight away, but these are unusual times.

Get travel insurance the second you book a holiday, now more than ever.

The more unusual the times, the more you need it.

Book it as soon as you book the holiday.
Just cross your fingers Egypt will be open.

As above , staysure currently covering covid without restriction.

As a "risk based" business insurers may look to hike premiums for those who have had covid and/or choose not to have a vaccine .

A policy purchased in a few months may not have the same cover at the same price

The question is really do you intend you travel even if the FCDO advice is that you don't travel to Egypt?  If you do then the additional cover is a good option, if you don't then don't buy it.  Although, worth noting if you currently have no insurance then you are unlikely to get insurance which will cover cancellation due to FCDO advising against travel for COVID related reasons.
