Venting Induction Hob - Ducting?

In my new kitchen the current plan is to have a peninsular that will be 1200 deep (2 rows of kitchen units backing on to each other) and it will house a 800mm downward extracting induction hob (see below).

My question is, for people who have one of these hobs fitted, was there enough room behind the unit in the service void for the extractor ducting? I believe the ducting is 100mm wide? So with two sets of units backing on to each other there should be a double width service void?

The size of the service void varies from one manufacturer to another. it could be anything from 40mm to 70mm, or even zero (Ikea). You need to check with the supplier.
That said, even if the service void is too small, the carcass can usually be modified - I had to increase the service void on a couple of flat pack base units (B&Q Cooke & Lewis) to clear some plumbing.

    Thanks FB.

The hob will likely sit on a 800 or 900 3 drawer unit in the Clerkenwell range from from Howdens.

Anyone know if the service void is standard across all Howdens units or whether it varies with the range?

Interested to hear people’s experiences of fitting their venting induction hob. Hopefully it’s fairly straightforward.

That is an easy question to answer - Service void is 72mm on the base units.
Units will be standard across the range.

Thanks again FB, extremely useful info. 72mm voids back to back should provide plenty of space for the ducting.

I have one ... in a Howdens kitchen .. installed in an island made from 2 rows of back to back units.. 1200 deep ie. exactly the same.

The service space was not an issue.

    Watchouts are:
     - the manufacturer ducting will likely be expensive AND there may be a long order time ESPECIALLY if being imported
    - your builder may not have done one before ... the unit (deep drawers?) might need modifying to get a good fit - needless to say the ducting goes under the floor and this is not a job to rush
    - a significant cold draft can blow back up through the vent into the kitchen - ask the m/f how to prevent
    - if your oven/s are opposite the hob, the draft from the oven can significantly impair the performance of the hob extraction

like use an in line backdraught shutter in the ductwork, or a cowled and damped exterior grill?
