Thanks for the replies. One related question, when trying to time the market for buying and selling shares I can see the value of the share price on the stock exchange but when I invested in the Vanguard ISA I only remember seeing the value of the fund units and how many units I could buy once I'd got them. Is there a recommended site people use to see the value of fund units for index trackers or something like VLS 100?
As above, the fund manager's own site will show the most recent price for funds (which, to reiterate, are only valued daily rather than in real time like shares), but there are also plenty of more generalised independent sites publishing pricing across the market, such as Trustnet, Morningstar, FT, etc, as well as those of platforms such as HL, etc....

You never know the price you will buy or sell fund units, only the price of the previous transactions. You have to hope it won't be much different day to day. Over the course of a 10+ year investment, it's not going to be significant.
