Please Confirm Where You Are Resident

This morning my wife received letters from both Halifax and Lloyds with the titles "Please confirm where you are resident for tax purposes". Neither of us has ever had anything like this before so we are not even sure if it's a scam or genuine.
Neither of us hold passports which they seem to be requesting and neither of us have been out of the UK for at least 40 years. Any help or advice would be most welcome

This is from 2017 but your letters appear to be part of the same exercise?1 -
How long have you had accounts with Halifax and Lloyds?
If you have been with them for a very long time and not opened new accounts in the last few years where you had to provide personal information they are probably just catching up with gaining the information they need to "know their client".
Do you use online banking with them? Is there anything in the document/message area aboujt this?1 -
Thanks for the reply, really appreciated. We've had accounts with both for many years and nothing shows up in the online banking with either bank.0

Thanks for the reply. Reading through the link it says the letters may have been "triggered by a former foreign address or contact number in the records". We have had neither of these.xylophone said:https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/experts/article-4947858/Bank-letter-asking-UK-resident-tax-purposes.html

Simply respond to the questions asked. Job done. You haven't been singled out for particular attention this will be part of a much bigger exercise.1
