O/S Daily Saturday 10 April 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, cloudy and overcast and wet underfoot - rain forecast for the day also not quite so cold.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying my first cuppa whilst on here, will get a shower and brekkie shortly/ DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night for the menfolk, was pie, chips, mushy peas and gravy. I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight I'm thinking naughty takeaway - we'll see.
Yesterday I got some further jobs done and today will potter about - spend some time menu planning as we seem to have fallen into the food rut again. Will continue researching recipes etc today.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc. What a sombre day it was yesterday. Such a sad though inevitable time.DM had another rough day, her heart rate wouldn't go down, stuck at 148 for a long time. I phoned the GP for advice which when followed settled things down a bit. I spent time scanning more photos and papers. DM wrote a series of birthday poems to her brother and another set to her dear friend Rosie who died fairly young. Then I found a poem I had written to DM in 1985, such forgotten talent! The final shelf in the pantry of doom was cleared 🎉🎉 it was glass jars of beans, pulses, rice and pasta. No dated packets unfortunately so I can't tell how old everything is. Now I can start to move the cupboard full of tinned goods across. I think DM took the MSE ethos a touch too far. This morning I'll be doing some shopping for the crossword duo. I have to stop eating, the less DM eats the more I do, it's just awful. One of my favourite shower gels has been discontinued by the manufacturer but I found some on Amazon which promoted a little purchase. 🤣My thoughts are with all our poorlies still. Happy Saturday to all.10

Hi everyone,
Sorry to hear DM had a bad day Gers, I am in awe of her intellect, I just hope my brain is as intact if I reach that age.
Steve's eye is progressing but I get a blow by blow account of every little change, his imagination runs riot over every little thing and I probably seem very unsympathetic when I play things down. If there was anything concrete I would encourage him to contact someone but there's nothing I can do about his amorphous fears.
I shopped yesterday, buying lots of salad stuff and veg and no chocolate. We had booked to go away in the van to Norfolk this week, we moved it back because of Steve's op but I don't think we'll be able to go now. It's siting on the drive like a white elephant, having hardly been used in the 3 years we've had it I wish we'd not bought it.
I hope you all have a good day.

Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
My last early morning shower today, from now on we'll be relying on solar so showers will be limited to moving days. I'll be boiling the kettle for my morning wash and for washing up. Washing my almost waist length hair over the sink and with just hugs of water is interesting!
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.10 -
Morning All
Lovely sunny day, the frost is melting, it was really quite spectacular when I got up. Not sure if I have enough for a wash, will see once I've had a shower.
I went to the allotment yesterday to sow seeds, it was really warm in the poly tunnel but very chilly outside. Came home and spent a couple of hours raking the dreaded moss from the grass and putting holes in it with my new garden fork - hard work but quite satisfying.
Hope your DM has a better day Gers, perhaps you could make a book of her works.
Happy moving day Hester, not sure I could cope without having a daily shower.
Glad Steve's eye is improving Snoozer.
Back to the allotment for me today, I'll uncover the beds and put the supports up ready for the peas and beans. Apart from that there's nothing planned.
Hope you all have a good Saturday, take care. XX12 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
Sad news yesterday, but did we really need wall to wall coverage on 5 TV channels.
I cleaned out three wall cupboards yesterday have just one floor and one wall cupboard to do. I also finished deconstructing the quilt, I have to iron the top again and trim any bits that have shredded, then its off on Tuesday.
We had a bad night, I did fall asleep but then DB woke me fidgiting, that was it until well after 2 am. Have just dragged myself out of bed.
No idea whats for supper tonight, it will be something that does not require much effort. Possibly sausage and mash with beans. There are some peaches left from last night for dessert.

Morning all, the sun is out here but it's sooooo cold, brrr!Thank goodness the last week is behind us, many nights of broken sleep have taken their toll and I had a lie in today. We were that busy that we nearly met ourselves coming back, twice ! I've managed to keep the washing down and the upstairs looks presentable but downstairs.......... well shall we say it looks lived in
The poor kitchen looks like a bomb has gone off too but I'm wearing blinkers today and doing nothing, so there ( wish we had a stamps foot emoiji because it belongs in here !) Sadly not even had time to do any decluttering taff !! Maybe I can do some this week when I try to catch up on some housework 🤔
Sad news about the Prince I was rooting for him to get his letter from the Queen for his 100th. He will be missed, he's always been there like part of the furniture during my life time.
Gers sorry DM is not so well again, sending love and hugs to you both.Snoozer I hope Steve's eye op is successful. We were saying the same thing about our van sitting in the compound and not being used for 2 years now 😞 It would be strange not to go 'vanning ever again as we've been 'vanners since 1987.Csarina sorry you had a bad night too. I'm with you on an easy meal for tonight, we're having jacket potato with our sausage, beans and cheese and ice cream for pud.Sending healing vibes to any poorly ones and hugs to all, especially those in need. The Sandman shall be ousted from the wardrobe to do his rounds too !Take care all, stay safe and keep well.nan xxI don't know what's happening to my post, it's all over the place. Maybe I've had a computer download/upgrade ?Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently10 -
Morning again
Just read the posts today from those of you who own caravans and not been using them, maybe now is the time to see if you can sell them, the 2nd hand market for them is really good at the moment - people not sure about going abroad so are choosing other options. When we had our van we would list various items on ebay/selling pages we no longer wanted/needed or if we changed van and the awning didn't fit etc - we always managed to find a buyer and generally got a decent price. Perhaps something to think about. It's just a suggestion I don't mean to upset anyone but it's frustrating having something that you're not using sitting on the driveway!
Keep safe and well x

Hi everyone
I had a lovely afternoon with little great nephew yesterday - we played in the garden and went for 2 walks! He chattered away and announced he'd had a lovely time and would come back tomorrow! I said one Saturday when mummy's at work....ok, you could take me to the beach that day!
Then little one arrived for tea - she'd been at nursery and hadn't had a nap so she was all tucked up and fast asleep by half past 6. We played this morning and she had a little ride on her bike on the paths at the front and then her daddy picked her up at 11.
I have a friend coming up later for a chat and a cuppa in the garden - it's nice and sunny and there's no wind, so it should be warm enough.
Sad news about Prince Philip yesterday - I hadn't realised he'd been such a good looking young man!
Hope everyone has a good day9 -
Just popping in to say hello, I thought I posted yesterday but the days are starting to run together now.
Something smells nasty in the kitchen and I can't work out what it is.
Hope everyone is having a good day, special thoughts for Gers and DM.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back7 -
I was convinced that yesterday was Saturday - thought must look at the football scores then realised. My week is all up the creek - Vicar on holiday so no Thursday email and the window cleaner turning up on a Friday - my grey matter struggles as it is.
Yucky wet day here - have to keep reminding myself - there are places that are desperate for rain for their crops and survival.
