From 12 April one household can stay in a completely self contained unit (eg a caravan/mobile home). They cannot do this with others from outside their household.
My understanding is that hotels can't open at this time as they have communal areas (reception areas, corridors etc) where people from different households could come into contact or gather indoors, which is currently still not permitted.1 -

There's been another thread somewhere on the forum about someone who booked a holiday apartment, but because there are shared communal areas indoors (lobby, corridors etc) they are not allowed to take guests until Step 3 (no earlier than 17th May). It's only completely self contained accomodation such as holiday homes that are allowed from 12th April. That's why I suggested further up that the OP look at air b'n'b's rather than hotels.1 -
Just do the 8 hr round trip, that’s what me and the mrs do when we drop off or pick up our daughter from uni0

I’m unsure whether a stop would be permitted or not but for the sake of a phone call could be worth asking?! Assuming of course there would be a premier inn within a reasonable distance!0 -
The way I understand the rules (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-response-spring-2021/covid-19-response-spring-2021-summary) from Monday 12th April "Self-contained accommodation such as campsites and holiday lets, where indoor facilities are not shared with other households, can also reopen" you cannot stay in a hotel, but can stay in a holiday home / static caravan hire etc.
I know someone who has a static caravan and their park is opening but none of the communal shower blocks or dining areas etc.
If you were to find a hotel that is open and agrees you have a "permitted reason" to stay, will that trip then still be affected by all dining being outside? Given the current weather, breakfast sitting on the patio does not seem appealing.0 -
