I have had a quote to remove the existing cracked concrete render from a mid-terraced house built about 1870, stone and brick, with an extension believed to be a later addition, to be replaced with a lime render. Job is as follows:
1) Carefully hack off existing cement render to rear annexe and rear elevation. Establish areas of stone masonry and concrete brickwork.
2) Rake out existing stone masonry.
3) Inspect cill and lintels for possible adjustment.
4) Apply slurry dash lime harling base coat to stone masonry.
Apply rubber based glue neat GradeB cement and water slurry coat to concrete blockwork and install beads to concrete blockwork quoins, heads, dpm bellcast and party wall line.
5) Apply dragged 2:1 NHL3.5 parge finish to stone masonry areas.
Apply base scratch coat of febmix, waterproof retarder, sand and cement to concrete blockworks areas.
6) Apply finish coat consisting of 5:1:1 fine sand, cement and hydrated lime to areas of concrete blockwork. Smooth finish to be created with a wooden float and sponge.
7) Hack off render to front elevation.
8) Rake out existing stone masonry.
9) Finish to be established following inspection of existing stone work. Lime works to be applied accordingly - lime pointing or lime render.
Materials costed at £800 and labour for 2 men per day at £220. Estimate of time to complete is 7 weeks, so that would be £8500 total.
Grateful for any views on price and timescale for this, please. I had a look on 'price your job' type websites, and the price seems higher, and the time it will take considerably longer, than I expected.

what is the square metre of your house? i'm doing the same atm looking for rendering but my house is 280m2 so ... it's a big job.
I would ask about your basecoat though, it looks like they are putting a waterpoof cement layer on beneath your lime layer? is that right?! im not a renderer but after spending alot of time looking for something suitable for my victorian solid brick house myself it seems an odd choice to put a waterproof layer beneath the lime? the whole point of lime is to let water though (in both directions) won't the cement layer trap vapor inside the house?
As i said i'm not a renderer and i'm at best a dangerous reader of google. I just know from my own search that builders claiming to know how to deal with a solid brick/stone house and those actually understanding why it needs different treatment are quite different things.- May 2021 Grocery Challenge : £198.72 spent / £300 Budget
