My IMAC has started to play up.
When mouse is used a 'trail' appears on the screen and then keyboard & mouse functionality don't work- have had to turn off via switch.
Any suggestions please ?

@fjh Can you tell us which model, year, and MacOS version?
And have you an old/spare keyboard or mouse you can try instead (even if not Mac versions) ?

Are you using the Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard? If so. it might be a Bluetooth problem sometimes rectifiable by 'forgetting' the devices and re-pairing. As previously suggested a mouse and/or keyboard with a USB connection would help with diagnostics.
https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/reset-mac-bluetooth-module/ gives instructions which are relevant to Catalina (I just checked on my machine)
