Render skim on semi detached house

We've had a quote for some rendering work on our house. The current render is largely sound but it's a mish mash of some panels smooth, some pebble dash etc. The plasterer reckons it's rock solid and would take a red grit skim then render. Quote includes beads, 2 coats red grit, coat render, scaffold etc for 1930s 3 bed semi, plus small utility on the back and is £6k with no paint. A quick google of estimates suggests this might be a bit expensive. Any thoughts?

It's a lot of work to do properly, and there is the cost of either scaffolding the entire house or shifting a scaffold tower multiple times. He has to go round the entire house 3 times. It's going to be difficult getting a consistent coat over different finishes too. The figure may be high for a 'standard' rendering job although it doesn't seem excessiive to me as this sounds far from standard.
