Living in Wales and arriving from India via Heathrow next week, I will be travelling from Heathrow to Wales by car.
Can I book a test from the list of providers for England as my port of entry is England or should it be via the CTM portal on wales.gov?
The PCR test I booked while travelling to India via CTM portal in Wales did not get my test results back and had to take another one in Heathrow before travel.
Its a lame company whose telephone is just a bunch of recorded instructions.

  • You will just have to do what the Welsh Government tell you to do.  Have a look on their website.   Safe journey back.

The matter of frustration is that this a nationwide pandemic and why would the UK as a whole not have a single system and rules. How confusing!

Because Mark Drakeford and Nicola Sturgeon want to do things their way because they believe they are totally independent rather than having the the sense to collaborate with other countries within the UK.

The thread title says "Test To Release", is that what you mean?

Test To Release is when you can take an additional test to reduce the length of time you need to self-isolate.  The Welsh government have said that option is not available for Welsh residents, anyone returning to Wales who has been abroad in the last 10 days must self-isolate.

Isolate for 10 days and do test on day 2 and day 8. Is that right?

Or perhaps this is what happens when no one envisages a pandemic/national crisis where the leaders of the three mainland countries wouldn't **** on each other if they were on fire.

You have 2 options. Arrive in Heathrow, travel home to Wales and take your pre-booked tests on day 2 and day 8. You need to isolate until the result of your second test is back and it is at least day 10. (If you use someone like Collinson, you have the option of taking the day 2 test on day 0 when you arrive at Heathrow, if that makes life easier for you).
Alternatively, spend the 10 days in England. You can book a hotel or airbnb on the grounds you are still travelling transiting to home. You then have the option of taking the test to release on day 5. So you spend 5+ days in isolation and then a few days in England released from isolation, before you return to Wales on day 10.

  • Keen to know what you did in the end..

The CTM tests are a ripp-off and their reviews online are awful however it seems that if you are staying in Wales or Scotland you have to use them and cannot use any other provider?

My interpretation is that you have to use the Welsh/ Scottish tests if you land directly into Wales or Scotland. If you land into England you can use any of the testing companies acceptable in England. Once you travel into Wales or Scotland you are then bound by their rules, meaning you can’t test to release (TTR) from day 5 as you would in England.
the fact that some of the testing companies eg Randox have drop off points within Wales seems to bear this out.
