U.K. staycation cruises travel insurance warning.

Just a heads up for those like me taking one of the many UK staycation cruises this summer, i have found out that many travel insurance policies have a clause that says they won’t pay medical & emergency expenses if you are holidaying within the UK as these costs would be covered by the NHS, however, if you are onboard a UK cruise and take ill the NHS will not cover onboard medical and emergency fees, therefore it may be a good idea to double check with your travel insurance company to see if they will cover onboard medical & emergency costs whilst on a cruise within the UK. I know Staysure travel insurance do cover this and they will send an endorsement clarifying this if you call them.

Not a staycation unless you happen to live permanently on a cruise ship.

Staycation: staycation is a holiday that you spend in your own home or your own countryrelaxing and enjoying leisure activities there.

Visiting parts of the UK whilst a UK resident?
    :)

But for my next cruise it will not be a staycation one. Not at these prices, to visit wet damp dirty areas of various parts of the UK.   :s

I'd imagine that the air ambulance would be called. If an emergency arose.

    Annoying isn't it?

Staycation originally meant behaving like a grockle in the area where you usually live, thereby obviating the need to spend money on travel and accommodation, whilst enjoying aspects of your local area that might, during work time, pass you by.

Now it's taken to mean, "being a Londoner in Cornwall," which is hardly a new thing is it?

  • I'm a little bit tempted by the Disney "staycation" cruise but no idea what the prices are going to be like. I did think the P&O offerings were expensive so may be a little less tempted when general bookings open next week

Except that being a Londoner in Cornwall makes you an 'emmet',  grockles appear in Devon not Cornwall.  :)
  • Thanks for the advice and good to know that Staysure offer suitable cover. Evidently the Holiday Extras insurance is also good for British P&O cruises (since they are partnered) but they seem to be expensive. On the other hand, the travel insurance that comes with my Nationwide building society account does not provide the cover required by P&O for these cruises.

For the sake of price comparison though, does anyone know of any other companies that provide acceptable insurance?

And yes, I thought a staycation was something you did at home but it seems that the goalposts have moved.
