O/S Daily Friday 9 April 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, dry underfoot, but cold start to the day.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausage, black pud, hash browns, mushrooms, beans and toast - naughty but nice. Tonight will be something quick and easy.
DID the few admin jobs yesterday that needed doing and also got the washing machine going, last night the dirty wash basket was empty - for about 5 minutes! So will continue on with that.
This morning will be shopping first thing, then anything else that needs sorting.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning, its dry here after rain late last night. Thanks for starting NMLCA lot of us are looking forward to haircuts it seems! I'll wash mine this morning, but as someone said yesterday, nothing I do makes it look any better, it's too out of shape. The most that can be said is that it's clean.DD was getting about better than I expected yesterday, she had taken painkillers and strapped her toe to the next one. It's a horrible colour and she can't move it, but she won't rest it so there's nothing I can do. Work carried on yesterday, the last of the garage rubble will go to the tip today I think.Jobs are mounting up here of course, but I'll catch up eventually.TA, how exciting, a new caravan. Hope you can get rid of the things you don't want. We are trying to sell a 3 mtr long awning, that was part of the deal when we bought our caravan.because we have since bought one of those awnings that you pump up, it's much easier and less time consumimg to put up.Thoughts to Gers and her Mum, and others who are out of sorts. take care folks.

Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc. I hope that you sort things out well.I've been awake since 4am, my body is weary though my mind is going like the clappers, think I'll be needing a sneaky snooze later on.Yesterday my breakfast with Alan was really enjoyable. He offered to come round to swap over TVs for me. DM is having difficulty reading the subtitles on her 32" one (think she's using the wrong part of her varifocals as she's not always sitting up) so she now has my 40" TV. He was very good to help, I could have done the techie thing but would have struggled to carry the big one. DM can now read the subtitles without her glasses. 🤓
In the afternoon I cleared the floor of the pantry which turned out to be much easier than I had anticipated. No rancid oils at all, in fact the only oils were all still sealed and had been bought by me. 😀 There's a few bottles of assorted vinegars which don't need chucked. Three packets of rice are destined for the bin, I hesitated for a while but they're dated BB 2003 and there's plenty of in-date rice elsewhere. Oh, and about six bottles of booze used for cooking / baking, now relocated. Only the high up shelf to go, it has glass jars of dried goods.Today should be one of rest. That's my rough plan at least. The weather forecast is for snowy times so I don't intend to go out. Fingers crossed.Hugs to our poorlies. Happy Friday to all.10 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
Rain forecast for today but it's not here yet.
Plans for today including giving Beano a shower with his anti itch shampoo, he hates being showered.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester.Chin up, Titus out.10 -
Morning All
Bright and sunny this morning with a bit of a breeze, bedding in the WM that will go out once it's finished. It rained most of yesterday until about 4pm when the heavens opened and it really rained!
I took the little one for a walk yesterday and she was nearly blown off her feet, thankfully she found it funny but it was quite cold and her little face was bright red when we got back.
Some more seeds were planted that are now lounging about upstairs, wish the weather would warm up a bit so they could go out in the little greenhouse, I don't like having them in the house.
Hope everyone's well, have a happy Friday, take care. XX9 -
Good morning everyone
It's been raining overnight but it's not too cold this morning. Had a tossing and turning sort of night thinking about my sister. My mum came to see me yesterday to bring my birthday card and gift for Sunday and we had a proper talk about our worries for my sister. We also discussed our respective wishes for our own funerals when the time comes and we are both the same in that we don't want a funeral as such, just a cremation. It was a slightly morbid but reassuring conversation.
I made chicken enchiladas for dinner last night but feel blank about what to eat today. It will probably end up being a spag bol or something similar. My first food box comes tomorrow so at least the next few days are sorted.
Today is another day where I will be pottering around. Steve has really hurt his knee somehow so between his limping and groaning every time he moves, it's like living in a Zombie film 🤣🤣🤣. Hopefully he will feel better soon but he won't ring the doctors so my sympathy is wearing a bit thin.
Right, I must stir my stumps and go and make a cup of tea. I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Hi everyone,
Steve's eye op seemed to go ok but it will be a while before we know how well it has worked. Apparently up to 5% of people end up with worse sight but hopefully he won't be one of those. I got my Esben fix, he's changed even in just a week, his vocabulary is coming on in leaps and bounds and was very proudly naming his body parts as he pointed to them. We're going again next Tuesday for a couple of days so that Laura can study for the exam she has got on Thursday. She was very pleased last night because NICE have sanctioned Acupuncture as a treatment for chronic pain relief.
Today is supermarket day, I need to make a careful list because we are trying to lose weight and in particular I need to low carb because of my blood sugar.
Well done on the pantry clearing Gers. Dumpling, I think you are very sensible, I would not be happy if someone decided I needed a religious ceremony when I die. My general pragmatism was increased after I had to deal with the cemetery as Town Clerk and it reinforced my feelings against excessive sentimentality (usually displayed by people who weren't very nice to the living).

Morning all.
ScarletRibbons, I'm with you on the hair. I have an appointment on Monday and can't wait. All I can do with it at the moment is to keep it clean and go out with a bag over my head.
Gers, I have recently taken to subtitles. It's not that I don't hear well but I find with some programmes, although you can hear the actors talking, working out what they are actually saying is a different matter. No trouble with old black and white films or programmes made before the nineties.
The subtitles are hilarious though, aren't they? I love how they describe the stage directions - 'audience fidgetting', 'frightened screaming from outside.'
dumpling, It's good that you can discuss with your Mum how you would like your final goodbye to be. Too many people leave it to their devastated family to try to second guess what they would like. I've made my wishes very clear to my family. No fuss. As little money spent as possible, and lots of laughter.
Now I must get myself showered and dressed. It's a cooking day for me. Lasagne, cheese scones, lemon meringue pie and chocolate brownies for a friend's birthday tomorrow.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Bright and sunny here but still cold, washing can go on the line today.
DD and OH at work so I will take the dogs to the park for a run and then I have the excitement of picking uo my click and collect later, I will need to pop into a shop as well as I have forgotten a couple of bits.
Phoned the Dr yestreday as I am having horrible headaches and raging thirst every day, I think its the tamoxifen but I am going for blood tests next week just to check, I know its a sign of diabetis so it will be good to get checked out.
Picky bits for dinner bread cheese ham and olives etc lots of little bits to use up.
Have good days all and hugs to those in need xxx9 -
Popping back to say what good news for snoozer's Steve and get well soon to dumpling's Steve.Monna - I find it's mostly the American stuff which I struggle to hear properly and some UK dramas. If the actors aren't clear and the scenes are in the dark I turn off! I remember leaving the cinema during a showing of Aliens 2 as it was shot in the dark, at least the first half hour was.Dumpling - conversations around last wishes are so good. My beloved Dad made his wishes really clear, I made him tell his last remaining sibling as I knew it won't go down well with the wider family and I was right! Some of my cousins, whom I hardly knew, were quite nasty until Uncle David got stuck in and told them in a very forceful manner that I had follwed what my Dad had asked for. These days it's acceptable to have a cardboard coffin, no flowers and no religious service.Ruby - I hope that your headaches are soon resolved. Feet up and head down for a while.8

Morning, hugs if you need one...... we have had rain overnight, everything is rather wet, so DB will only be going to the shed today.
All the seeds he planted have come through, its like a nursery on the sitting room window cill, but it works so thats fine. I took an hydrangea cutting at the end of last year, it has rooted and there are two very tiny flower buds on it. It is destined for a pot on the patio eventually, it should be big enough to go out this summer.
So its Friday, more undoing of the quilt required, its proving difficult as I spray glued the backing on to the wadding, its not moving easily.
Busy week next week, Cleaner and Gardener on Monday, Taking the quilt in on Tuesday, Wednesday a click and collect from Aldi and Thursday a delivery...... its all go.
Trying to decide whether to have our bedroom furniture 'Annie Sloaned' its pine and really old fashioned now, Plus Its still in good condition although its almost 30 years old!! DB was looking at a new 3 door wardrobe, he was horrified when he found out the cost!
I did a double freezer audit, moved some stuff from the outside freezer into the kitchen. Apart from chicken I do not need any meat at all, so I can stock up with some extra bread for toast and milk. My meal plan is done to the end of the month.
We too had the 'what do we do' conversation two years ago. We paid ahead for our funerals and had written into our wills, which we made at the same time, what we wanted, so there will be no doubts. I felt very relieved when it was all done and dusted.
So fish and chips tonight, looks like fruit and ice cream for dessert, there is just enough for a small serving each of ice cream.6
