Make sure the behaviourist uses only positive reward methods. NO punishment.
Properly trained and qualified animal behaviourists never use punishment. That's something they learn during their own training. My niece is one.
Anybody can call themselves a  behaviourist. There is no one specific  training organisation or qualification.

Some who call themselves   behaviourist use prong collars / electric collars.

That is why  I said to ensure only positive methods are used.

You can only control your own dog, you now know she will attack and bite so she needs to be kept on a lead or muzzle.
  • The OPs dog has done nothing wrong in my opinion. First time it got attacked then the second time, the very same dog went running up but on this occasion out of fear OPs dog has gone for it first. Both times the owner of the other dog has been in the wrong as the second time they should have seen OPs dog was on a lead and thus they are in the right - the person with the dog off lead is not right when it just runs up to another dog.
On this basis I would refuse to pay for a vets bill - they should have had control of their dog, they didn't. The repercussions of this is that it got bitten whilst your dog was on lead.
Been around since 2008 but somehow my profile was deleted!!!

    Where di you read that?

The OP'S dog was not on the lead . So by your reasoning the Op is in the wrong if his dog ran up to the other dog.

There is no information of she ran up to the other dog or not  or whether the other dog was on a lead or not.
