Your suggestion that people should not provide their new supplier with readings will fall at the first hurdle. Why - because the industry validation system was set up to cover, inter alia, the no readings situation. The new supplier’s data collector will estimate the handover readings if none are provided The old supplier has to accept these readings even if these differ slightly from what is on the smart meter or if they are outside industry limits, raise an Agreed Readings Dispute. When these situations arise, the advice given is that both suppliers have to use the same readings to close and open accounts, and this is the first thing for a consumer to check. Annoying as it is to many, these readings may not be the same as the ones that were provided. I had to give Scottish power the closing readings from Yorkshire energy, because the administrators aren't going to come back with a different bill later. Then Scottish power decided to raise a huge "final" estimated bill.
I have no faith that my readings will ever be validated now. But regardless, its in my interest for SP to use the correct readings I gave them.
It is good that you have a resolution but your advice if followed will result in more estimated reads on switch.1 -
The losing supplier will issue an estimated bill before you switch anyway, there is absolutely no benefit to you letting them take an extra £100 until the gaining suppliers reads are validated and they issue the final "final" bill.Dolor said:

And as you say, when/if the readings are validated then it will get itself sorted anyway. I'm not holding my breath for the validation as it's been over three months already.
