Vodafone - Account on Credit report

I was previously using Vodafone as my home broadband provider. We parted ways amicably at the end of my contract back in October 2019 but this account still shows as Open/Active/Live on ClearScore, Credit Karma and Totally Money.

The account is being reported as paid every month with a zero balance ect. Will having this account on my report be looked on negatively by any future credit/service providers or is having this phantom account being reported as paid a good thing?

Already logged into my Vodafone account, it confirms no services are active and no balances due.

J

It appears it's common for Vodafone - if there's no outstanding balances reported - it'll become a long standing account and will have a negligibly positive effect on your credit history, as they are constantly reporting all is good and you're up to date. It seems many people have trouble getting the accounts marked as settled.

Vodafone have been doing this for years. There used to be a rep of the company who visited this forum, and contacting him appeared to be the best way to get it changed. He got one of mine changed. I haven't seen him around for quite a while though.

    It shouldn't affect you.

The only way to remove it is likely to be a formal complaint, don't even bother trying to reason with them,  and then escalate to the ombudsman when they don't do anything. You'll really have to chase to get anywhere.

    {My bolding.)

Does that point stand if you have subsequently moved address? Or if Vodafone is reporting the account based on an old (previous) address, could it actually be detrimental to your credit history?

If so, bonkers as it might sound, would it actually be beneficial to access the old, quasi-moribund Vodafone account and actually update the address?

I don't think the effect would particularly significant either way but you're right, contacting them to update your address details if you moved might be the way to go.

I actually did that last time I moved house with a few of the banks I used to hold accounts with - I still have access to online banking for whatever reason (even though I have no active accounts) so I figured why not. It might make things easier if I ever want to open up new accounts down the line.
