The gas leakage was obviously minimal or non-existent, since no odour was detected in the living room. If so, how did a boiler service detect the leak?
I suppose that it's possible that the service engineer got a whiff of gas and decided to carry out a system pressure check and found the leak that way.

You're entitled to have the damage put right.  It will be impossible to work out now how much gas you've "lost" as a result, but once you've got some new readings over a period to compare it to, you'll have an idea as to how much leaked and you could then ask for the difference.  You don't get anything for what might have happened.
it doesn't seem right that the OP has no come-back on the developer for this negligence
They do have come-back - to get the problem fixed and compensated for their actual losses. You don't get anything for whataboutery.

    Do you think that's acceptable?

I imagine there would be rather different views being aired if this was a rented house and it was landlord negligence we were discussing.
    On that particular point, yes.

It doesn't mean there can't be other consequences faced by someone who has been installing dangerous gas systems (or signing things off carelessly). But it doesn't mean the buyer (or tenant) gets extra compo.

Also a good job they were not having a fag on said sofa.
    😁😁
    A fag won’t ignite gas ;)
    Don't believe you.
So why do all the signs around any contractors working on any part of the gas supply network say 'No Smoking' ??

I don’t think a fag will ignite the gas but a naked flame  used to light the fag might

    Why would it be?
I’m a landlord, and as long as the issue was fixed and no harm done there’d be no extra money leaving my pocket!

Honest, It’s true! It’s not hot enough.
Plus the mix has to be right for anything to happen.

As photome points out, how would someone typically light a cigarette?  That's the problem.

Absolutely. Was just saying..it does surprise a lot of people.
Anyway, to get the mix required to cause an issue you’d know about it!!
Hope the OP is sorted though :)

Yes, but only if the concentration of gas had by then built up to such a degree that it could not possibly be unnoticed.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
