Serious gas leak in new build property

I suppose that it's possible that the service engineer got a whiff of gas and decided to carry out a system pressure check and found the leak that way.macman said:The gas leakage was obviously minimal or non-existent, since no odour was detected in the living room. If so, how did a boiler service detect the leak?0 -
On that particular point, yes.Mickey666 said:davidmcn said:
They do have come-back - to get the problem fixed and compensated for their actual losses. You don't get anything for whataboutery.Mickey666 said:
it doesn't seem right that the OP has no come-back on the developer for this negligenceAylesbury_Duck said:You're entitled to have the damage put right. It will be impossible to work out now how much gas you've "lost" as a result, but once you've got some new readings over a period to compare it to, you'll have an idea as to how much leaked and you could then ask for the difference. You don't get anything for what might have happened.
Do you think that's acceptable?
I imagine there would be rather different views being aired if this was a rented house and it was landlord negligence we were discussing.
It doesn't mean there can't be other consequences faced by someone who has been installing dangerous gas systems (or signing things off carelessly). But it doesn't mean the buyer (or tenant) gets extra compo.2 -

So why do all the signs around any contractors working on any part of the gas supply network say 'No Smoking' ??0 -
I don’t think a fag will ignite the gas but a naked flame used to light the fag mightgreyteam1959 said:

I’m a landlord, and as long as the issue was fixed and no harm done there’d be no extra money leaving my pocket!1 -

So why do all the signs around any contractors working on any part of the gas supply network say 'No Smoking' ??Plus the mix has to be right for anything to happen.0 -
As photome points out, how would someone typically light a cigarette? That's the problem.greyteam1959 said:

Yes, but only if the concentration of gas had by then built up to such a degree that it could not possibly be unnoticed.Al_Ross said:jefaz07 said:
