There should have been far more publicity about this than there has been:

Please all check whether the database your pet's microchip is registered with is Petlog (there are a few database companies but Petlog have something like 10 million pets registered with them).
If it's Petlog, you need to create a new account.
Petlog are claiming that's all you need to do, BUT there are a lot of stories on social media about people who set up a new account but their pets aren't registered. More worryingly, someone I know lost their dog at the weekend - it was found and taken to a vet, but when the vet scanned it no details were available on the chip (a Petlog one). The vet posted pictures online and they were reunited, thankfully!! There are other stories online of people having their pet scanned only to find the details can't be retrieved, even though Petlog claim their "reunification service" is unffacted. So, be VERY wary and check your account, and if you're going to the vet maybe ask them to scan the chip and check it's still working correctly?

I went through all the steps but one of my pets still isn't associated with my account. Have sent through so many help requests but no response from Petlog. Was previously registered as a "premium" account. My other animals are there. Confused and annoyed!

Unsure if it is the same system however I have a 15 year old staff, a big lad.
Two years ago I took him to the vets for his yearly pre-European travel, the vet scanned his chip and exclaimed,"oh, he is not a Jack Russell puppy is he?"
It appears whatever system the chipping process uses, there is (was) plenty of room for error. He was found eventually, a duplicate number entry. I was warned I may have had trouble at Pet Passport Control at Calais, fortunately it was fine.0 -
I think I got lucky as both my cats have popped up on my new account. Still shocking that this happened though - and with the government heading towards mandatory chipping of cats as well as dogs, it should be a rock solid system.0

My 4yo terrier still isn't there!I have two horses correctly listed, my deceased dog that I never "cancelled" correctly listed, and a foster dog I looked after for 4 weeks that I had to register to my name as was worried the transfer code would expire. That dog is happily in another home, but now belongs to me again, apparently! Not impressed .... especially about my missing terrier registration!0

This is also an issue with Identibase.
Back in 2014 I registered my 2 cats with Petprotect via my vets.
Roll forward 11 years, I have changed address so tracked down the paperwork and started looking for who to contact.
Apparently in 2017, all Petprotect registrations were moved to Anibase/Identibase when they went bust. They have a record of the microchip number but not associated with any accounts or pets. So had I lost my cat in the years in between, we would never have been located.
Might be worth everybody just checking that their pets chip registrations from long ago still exist on a database somewhere via their pets.
