Ordering a new Santander debit card

The debit card I got last August expires early next year. I believe the switch over to Mastercard is a reason for this quick expiry date. When it expires, I'm due to be at university which will just cause issues with things like payments and getting the card delivered to wherever I am staying next year.
Would it make sense to order a new debit card now as I have no incoming or outgoing payments (my last student finance payment has gone through and my accommodation has been payed). Does anyone know if all replacement Santander cards are now the new Mastercards, which would likely have a longer expiry date?

Banks issue debit cards well ahead of the expiry date - generally in the month before expiry. So there is plenty of time for the new card to reach you. Make sure that they have the correct address to use.0

I know, but I just it would be easier to get it now whilst I have no payments and I'm at home. Would this make sense to do?General_Grant said:Banks issue debit cards well ahead of the expiry date - generally in the month before expiry. So there is plenty of time for the new card to reach you. Very weird the replacement one that I got last year when mine expired was replaced with a MasterCard debit card, though a recent everyday account I opened in January this year came with a Visa Debit card which will expire in January 2022 so I'm guessing they are replacing them with MasterCard debit ones very slowly.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
I asked them and they said all replacement cards should be MasterCard now. I ordered one yesterday and in the app it is a Mastercard with a 2025 expire date. I'm glad to see they have added the ability to freeze debit cards now they have switched over to Mastercard.dr_adidas01 said:Lightning360 said:The debit card I got last August expires early next year.
