O/S Daily Wednesday 7 April 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Gers - thinking of you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, dry underfoot, but cold start to the day.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS1 getting ready for work. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was LO roast beef, LO yorkshires, mash, veg and gravy. Tonight will be chicken with a pasta in sauce.
Yesterday work was very busy as expected - today will be similar. Seems things are moving along and next week should have some info.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all. Thanks for starting us off nmlc. It's -2 degrees here and dull with only 6 degrees promised. Some sun would be good.Yesterday I got myself over to the other side of the city to deposit the old and rancid cooking oil along with the big blue bag of recycling material and glass. The landscape of the south side is so different from this side, most disconcerting.DM received a present of a mature houseplant complete with a ceramic pot from an ex-student. It came in an enormous cardboard box with a second internal box for the pot. Cue me with the box cutters getting the cardboard more manageable and into the blue bag. Then later a delivery of flowers from M&S for DM, another large box. The blue bag is now stuffed again! 🤣In the afternoon DM sifted through more photo albums weeding out the unwanted ones and giving me the others to scan and then bin. In between scanning I got started on the cull of shelf three which was fairly easy compared to shelf one. One packet was dated BBE November 1990 which has set the record for the oldest.Sorry to bang on about the blooming pantry, it's filling my days and my mind this week. I can't imagine doing this (and the many other cupboards to come) after DM passes, I'd hate it. This way at least I'm sort of enjoying it.This morning the domiciliary optician is coming round to check DM's eyes. They've been closed since November so are busy catching up - EDIT optician has been closed, not DM's eyes!My thoughts to all the poorlies, I really hope that dp1's DD gets a diagnosis soon. Camelot, hope you're back to full jolly.Happy Wednesday to all.11

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLC.Still cold here, yesterday was bright but bitter.Sorry to read that you'd had a bad reaction Camelot, hope you feel a bit better today. One of my Dils did as well, she said it was like the worst flu, and wasn't well for about 3 days..Csarina I descale our kettle with a sliced fresh lemon boiled up a few times and left as long as you can. A warning though, if you leave it overnight don't do what we've done more than once - forget that the lemon is in the kettle and make tea or coffee. Horrible! The kettle does need a good rinse out afterwards. We don't have hard water though so our kettle is easy to do, don't know if lemon would work on hard water.Saying that though, I've just remembered, Ds lives in a hard water area and they have success with cleaning the limy kettle with a lemon..Bella those neighbours sound a bit unusual !Yesterday seemed to slip away without much being done, a bit of housework, did a towel load, Dh went to DIY store for some furniture paint, he's going to paint an old kitchen stool. I didn't do any ironing.Today we are back at DD's, I'll be keeping an eye on young grandson, he likes to ride about outside in his little car, dgd is usually facetiming her friends and doing whatever in her bedroom. Dh will probably be doing tip runs, and DD and partner will be hauling stuff about, or breaking something up, who knows.I'll have my big coat on though, that's a certainty, as I hover about watching the little one, as.the garden is not secure for him now they've knocked the garage down, but DD's partner is going to put up a temporary fence.I'm living for the 15th when we have a hairdressers appointment, I'm counting the days. Haven't had my hair done since 7th of December and it looks it.Hope everyone has a good day, thinking of Gers and her mum and all others who are not well.take care folks.13

Morning All
Dry and bright again this morning but still very cold, we had a couple of hail showers yesterday but mostly sunshine. I have some throws on the line, I've been using them whilst lazing on the sofa so they've been freshened up.
Thankfully I started to feel better yesterday about 2pm, didn't have a great night but that's probably because I didn't do anything yesterday. I do have a bit of a sore tummy this morning and unusually don't feel like eating but that won't do me any harm at all.
Sounds like you're enjoying your decluttering Gers, glad you got a haircut. Hope your DM has a good day.
Busy days for your Scarlett.
Hope the poorlies and injured are recovering well.
Not sure what I'll be doing today but it will involve a walk for some fresh air and probably an hour in the garden. Take care. XX

Good morning and thank you for starting us off nmlc.
Another very cold morning, we had another bout of snow and it is still in the minuses here.
OH got up early to go to the butcher and is back know. I have no plans again today, too cold for me to mess about outside.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back11 -
Good morning all. Really cold here and yesterday had such strange weather, with snow flurries followed by sunshine.
I was hoping to go out walking this morning but everywhere looks so cold and frosty I might postpone that idea and do some housework! Or even make a cake.
Enjoy your day everyone.11 -
Morning everyone
Scarlet ribbons - my hair is the worst it has ever been! I have an appointment for next Monday morning - I can't wait. I normally have very short hair - now it's just a bushy mess.
I'm going down to sit with dad this morning so mam can go to church - he'll be happy to have me to himself.
Other than that. no plans - I'd love to do some planting in the garden but I've just checked and it's going to be freezing overnight here right up to next Sunday.
I'd better get myself moving
Hope everyone has a good day12 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's still in the minus's here too - phone says minus 2 but will feel like minus 6! And it's not forecast to get above plus 3 all day! We had quite a few blizzards yesterday but thankfully they moved along before the snow settled.
Nothing much planned for today as usual. The usual jobs await if I feel so inclined. We heard from the site owner yesterday that our new to us static is now ready for us and, although we are not allowed to stay there until the 12th, we can make a start moving all our stuff to it from the Bailey . So DD, me and the girls are going over for the day on Friday to make a start. Her lovely chap will be available to help over the weekend and will probably be more help than me with all the heavy lifting!
GERS the pantry clearing and disposing of all the OOS stuff sounds hard work but, at the same time, it also sounds a bit exciting wondering what you might find in there!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, sad and those suffering nasty effects from the jab. Take care one and all x

Hi everyone,
I had a few new followers on my Instagram account which I'm putting down to yesterday's pots. Apart from one of you who let me know I'm having fun trying to decide who might be who.
We drove over to Cambridge for Steve to have his drive through blood test and had to wait in line for about 40 minutes. Luckily we listen to audiobooks in the car so the time passed quickly, we're listening to the latest Strike book by JK Rowling's alter ego at the moment.
Apart from that not a lot else was accomplished, a bit of cleaning, a bit of sewing etc. Today will probably be the same but tomorrow is Steve's op and visiting Laura, Brian and Esben.12 -
Good morning everyone, very cold here too and forecast for the day. Had lots of snow blizzards yesterday, interspersed with bright sunshine. OH cut the lawns ready for today's green bin collection, I managed to fill up all the bird feeders in the dry, but well before their late afternoon visits for their tea.
Shopping due shortly, 2 subs, but both O.K., considering how much it all costs doesn't seem like very much to clean and put away, grateful that we can cover the price rises, but mindful that it must be so difficult for so many people. I will wrap up warmly and walk into town and back just a couple of things needed from the butchers. OH and I are both expecting parcels in the next day or so, needs to be someone here so will to stagger our times out, does give each of us a bit of "me time" though.
I really want some HM GF baking, but haven't found the enthusiasm yet and we still have not braved trying to install the Ama*on Firestick, silly not just getting on with it. New carpet cleaning machine has been christened, I won't describe the colour of the water from the hall carpet!
Thinking of Gers and her DM, Dp1's DD, Marie, Dumpling and her DS and family and all that are poorly, stressed or struggling.
Keep warm, stay safe. The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)10 -
Morning all. Weather dull and gray but at least it isn't snowing or snow/hailing so far. Kept the fire in last night but today promises, or alexa promises, today will reach the giddy heights of 6 degrees. It's normal bins and recycle bins today and green bins tomorrow. I've missed the green bin the last twice so better get a move on to fill it up today with grass cuttings and more bits of branch. This involves me getting up and going though...don't hold your breath.I did get sugar and coffee yesterday but didn't get a battery. The cordless vacuum turned up and what can I say..what a revelation and I absolutely love it. So very much easier to use and appears to be really good judging by the amount of stuff in the cylinder area. Also so much easier to whip out and do a spilled area or one area. Who would ever have known I would enjoy a piece of cleaning equipment so much? Food last night was what was left of the stew and some noodles, tonight I will cook something with beans, I fancy a cassoulet.Gers, well done with the continued decluttering, long may it last
snoozer, lovelywork but am I wrong in imagining your tops mean tops or does your tops mean quilts? Hot water bottles for thems that needs, hot toddies for everyone else..well...it is cold and we all need a bit of warmth
enjoy your day as best you can...
