Can someone advise me of the amount a couple can earn and still get working tax credit?  Googled it and got so many different answers. Thank you
If you don't already claim tax credits then you can't start a new claim because all claims are now Universal Credit. Use a benefits calculator. https://www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator/Intro/Home?cid=14c629f7-ee18-4a4c-8ca5-3eb217bd5914

Thanks Poppy, just perplexed.  We are on Working Tax Credits, earning exactly the same as last year, when we qualified, this year we don't. I know there was the £20 extra, but the year before we qualified on the same income, now it seems we do not.  Has the amount you can earn gone down over the last few years?

Have you used a benefits calculator? Using one of those will tell you if you'll be better off on Universal Credit rather than tax credits.( providing you put the correct information into them)  Do be aware though that UC is a means tested benefit so if you have savings/capital of more than £16,000 you're excluded from claiming.
Some are better off on UC than they were on tax credits. It really depends on your circumstances.

  • i did a webchat with tax credits and this is what i was told hank you - yes I can confirm you will get the payment, a note has been added to your claim yesterday confirming. Payment will be received by 23//04/21 and you will also get a letter confirming the payment.
Is there anything else I can help you with? it is the easiest way to find out if your get it or not

Unless there has been a change of more than £2500 this year’s entitlement is based on last year’s income and last year's entitlement is based on the previous year’s income.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
