Hi all,

I am with Acorn , on a direct debit insurance. The car that was covered is scrapped and i found a new car. The quote they were giving me was extortionate. Comparison websites quoted me 65pounds a month lowest for a vauxhall astra gtc while Acorn wants to up my current insurance from 91 to 188 a month if i stay with them. No way. I want to cancel,  but what other fees than the cancellation fee of 100 would there be? Their terms and conditions only mentions cancellation charge. I renewed in January so i am only 3 months in , would I have to pay the remainder of the insurance if im on direct debit?? Or just the 100 cancellation fee? I feel punished by them, this is the 3rd year with them cause i hate changing providers but this is a pisstake what they want to quote me.

You won't have to pay for the rest of the year, just the cancellation fee.

As long as you haven't claimed since the last renewal, there should only be the cancellation charge afaik
  • Ask them to be 100% for sure.

You may have a bit more to pay as the refund isn't always proportional, ie 3 months in, you might not necessarily get 9 months back.

Phone them to find out the exact cost and see if they'll do anything about matching the cheaper quotes.

Do they charge interest for paying via DD?
Which means you have taken out a loan on the full amount.

Best bet is to speak to them and see what they say. Otherwise any answers are just best guess.

Yeah they did charge a bit more than the cancellation fee. I had to pay i think the remainder of interest. So i paid 217 pounds all together....which is not bad, i was expecting hundreds to be honest. But its all cancelled at least now.
