Accidentally paid a company

Hello!
I had a direct debit going out to Curry's/PC World as part of their buy now pay later scheme. I paid it off but forgot to cancel my direct debit because I'm an idiot. I've made at least two payments of £24 to them since it was cancelled. Am I entitled to this money back? Their lines are closed at the moment so I can't contact them until tomorrow and I wanted some advice first before I do. Internet searches haven't given my much information.
Please help!

  • Two payments since I fully paid off what I owe, rather than cancelled it should say.

Yes you're entitled to the money back if it was sent in error.
Do you mean a standing order? If it is actually a direct debit it will be much easier as the company should have stopped requesting money when it was paid off, so simply ask them or the bank to return the money.
If it's actually a standing it might be trickier but the money is still yours.
  • In my online banking it was under the direct debit header so I assume it was that? Thank you for your help!

How was it set up originally?
It sounds as though it was a direct debit, so Curry's / PC World should have stopped taking the money.
Simply get in touch and ask for the money back.
If there's any issues contact your bank and make a claim under the direct debit guarantee.
